Inaugural Benchrest 6/14/15
By Bill Shade
We had a pleasant day for our first ever air rifle benchrest match. Some overcast clouds moderated the temperatures; not too hot ( by Southwest Florida standards) and some very light winds. While we hoped for more shooters to participate, I think it was an enjoyable and a valuable learning experience for those who shot..
The most common lesson learned is that benchrest shooting is not nearly as easy as it looks. Even the slightest wind will effect your shot even at 25 meters. This outing had competitors shoot three 25 target face cards for a total of 75 shots and a possible perfect score of 750 points. The match began at 10:00 and concluded around 11:30.
For our first bench rest air rifle event I would have to call it a successful inaugural match and most important we all had fun. We certainly hope to see many more shooters turn out next month.
