Daylight Savings 25M Bench Rest Match
I'm not in the minority when I advocate the abolition of the semi-annual clock change. Daylight Savings or Standard Time, I really don't care. Spring Ahead or Fall Back.... Lets decide on one, and stick to it all 365 days a year. Today's match fell on the day we lost an hour. ( A good excuse for my poor shooting).
This was our first Bench Rest event of 2017 and we had a strong turnout. 15 shooters came to the club to put their skills to the test on what was a beautiful day in southwest Florida. Amongst the competitors, we had three new shooters; Jerry and Linda McGee and Sean Forsyth, all from Brandon Fl. Ken Hicks came a long way from Yulee ( near the Georgia border). Thanks to all who made the effort to wake up early and drive long distances. A special shout-out to Jack Rainey who marshalled the event. He made sure everyone followed all safety rules while keeping a smooth flow of activity throughout the competition and generating the "scoreboard" too. THANKS !
Our benchrest facility is limited to 8 excellent shooting stations so we held the match in 2 relays. Each relay consisted of 75 scored shots ( 3 target cards). Temperatures and humidity were quite comfortable ( between 65 and 75 degrees ) A cool front was approaching by late morning and winds began to stir a little more for shooters in the second relay.
The day's event was a non-sanctioned "Club Match" . Since we had several new shooters unfamiliar with more " formal" BR regulations we happily extended a little latitude for their equipment (we had some .22 and .25 caliber rifles competing). The day's focus was on safety, fun, and inclusion. Everyone seemed to be having a good time, and there were no issues over the scoring.
The next two "Airgunners" events are currently scheduled for Field Target, then a string of monthly Bench Rest matches will carry us from June through the Summer into October. I promise we will be getting a 50 yard Bench Rest match in one of those months.
