Field Target Match 7/14/20
Summer in South Florida. Some love it, others....not so much. Lots of humidity, hot temps and a rainy season augmented by the occasional tropical storm or hurricane. During these months DeSoto Airgunners generally shifts focus from Field Target to Bench Rest disciplines. (Our Summer Swelter Bench Rest Series)
This month, by popular request, our July bench shoot was revised (dare I say upgraded) to a Field Target event. We had a good turn-out of 15 participants. I'm happy to note that number included a few shooters new to Field Target. (Louis from the Lauderdale area; Cindy and Russ more local). Things got started early to beat the heat. Dennis and Gary must have arrived before Sunrise. They and the crew set-out an 8 lane 24 target course that was fun and challenging for every skill level. The 48 shot course included a kneeling and an off-hand lane. One twist to the day's event: a shooter could opt out of the forced position requirement and shoot those lanes from the classic “bum-bag” or Hunter seated position. While this made for easier target kills on those lanes, each downed target would only count as ½ point when shot from a “seated” position. An interesting option.
Gary P. was our Top Gun today with a score of 45, closely followed by Dennis D. scoring 44 of the possible 48 points. Hunter Division was led by Paul S. scoring 36 followed by Linda M with 35 points. Close competitive scores. At the end of the match newbie's Russ and Cindy were tied at 6 points; then they decided to have a shoot-off. We applaud that competitive spirit. Russ (our only Piston Shooter) took 2 shots at the 28yd target and missed them both. Cindy then took 1 shot at the same target and hit it. Tie Broken! Way to go Cindy.
Finally, Donovan T. is our Sportsman of the day. His Anschutz ONE “blew a gasket” after just one lane. A very rare DNF for one of our regular high achievers. Field Target newcomer Louis borrowed what could have been Donovan's backup rifle. Yet when his Anshitz failed Donovan graciously chose to take a DNF and continue to coach newcomer Louis through the Field Target lanes. Nice.
