Match 01-12-20
January 12, 2020 Happy New Year
With a turn-out of 14 shooters DeSoto Airgunners 2020 season got off to a strong start. And no starter was stronger today than Dennis D. who bagged TOP GUN honors with a Perfect Score. YES ! A Clean Course. Zero Misses. Happy New Year. We haven't seen that happen at a DeSoto Airgunners event since early 2011 (and that was an abbreviated 30 shot club match).
Today's 42 shot field target match included two forced position lanes: Lane 6 was designated the kneeling lane which was immediately followed by the challenging Off-Hand Only Lane 7. No shooter cleaned either one of those two lanes today except Dennis who skillfully aced both the kneeling and standing lanes (and all other lanes too.) Incidently, Dennis started on Lane 6 ! Super Effort.
Shooting conditions were near perfect, comfortable at daybreak then quickly warming to shorts and shirt sleeve temps by start time. With a brilliant Sun and few clouds, it rose to a record high of 86 degrees by the conclusion of the match. Winds were steady at 5 to 10 mph with an occasional gust near 20 mph adding some extra interest.
Once again we had a new participant! Steve G. had some Field Target experience years ago. He brought his AirArms Pulsar and scored a respectable number today. Steve now knows what we all should by now: Master the forced-position shots if you hope to be on the podium some day. As for Steve; He'll be back.
Several volunteers arrived early to assist. In quick-time we had the sight-in targets positioned and 21 freshly painted field targets set-out on a 7 lane course. The course take down was equally stressfree .
Thanks. Everyone.
Judging by the smiles and comments everyone had a fun time today.
The comment on the back of his scorecard had to be satisfying to note: "Finally. Cleaned The Course !! ". Dennis was just one hit from a perfect score last month. He was on a mission and on-target today.
There was lots of talk about shooting technique, equipment, and a mention of a Golf Scored match. This chat carried into lunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant where Top Gun Dennis (aka Course Cleaner) was our Guest of Honor.
