BR Match 6-13-21
Match 06-13-2021
Our Summer Swelter Bench Rest Series began today. June, July and August are pretty toasty in Southwest Florida so we generally take a break from Field Target and shoot Benchrest. The BR facilities within the DeSoto Gun Club include 8 poured concrete shooting stations with seismic stable benches. An adequate metal roof overhead provides protection from the direct Sun. There's even AC power available for a portable electric fan.
Today's 25 meter benchrest shoot was guided by USARB Regulations. All shooters competed in the Heavy Varmint class. Each contestant shot three official target cards, each target card 20 minute timed, for a total of 75 scored shots. A number of wind flags were deployed, sometimes indicating odd and contradicting wind directions, not that unusual considering the intermittent, swirling, and puffy wind conditions we had today.
Our match included 10 participants and was shot in 2 relays. John Taylor took the opportunity to shoot in both relays while others used a vacant bench slot to practice or try out another shooter's setup. One of the original 'Airgunners from 2006 stopped in to say hi and see what's changed in the game. Good to see you Neil Jones. Hope you can join us at some future match.
-And, one of our newer Field Target shooters (Scott A.) arrived to try his hand the at the benchrest side of precision air rifle shooting. He broke through 650 points with 12X's, a very respectable first outing.
Top Gun honors went to Chip Willing with 735 points and a very impressive 31X's. Well Done.
We know John Loeffler is a creative skilled airgun enthusiast, engineer and woodworker, often coming up with clever tweaks and design mods for his equipment. He also takes a scientific approach to his airgunning. It must work for him as he recently scored a podium finish at the Baton Rouge Bayou Classic. In light-hearted recognition of John's airgun enthusiasm, today we presented him a vintage K&E Slide Ruler. Now John can calculate the volume within a pellet skirt or the surface area of a sphere and refine his ballistic data while waiting his turn on the lanes. Battery not required.
It's all good fun.
Special Shout-Out to Linda for taking charge with Chip to handle the scoring activities. Thanks !
-And to all who made this a fun event. See you next month.
