BR Match 7-11-21
Sunday June 11th the Airgunners held another in our 2021 Summer Swelter Bench Rest Series at DeSoto Gun Club. The conditions were great for the match. We enjoyed seasonal temps, high 70's in the morning and just under 90 by noon. Humidity, high; but kept in check by a rather steady 5mph East to Southeast wind.
Shout-Outs: Thanks to those who assisted with the Range and match set-up (and take down) activities. Thanks to the target-card scorers. Specially to Linda. She does a fantastic job accurately and swiftly scoring and posting shooter's results. [all your efforts make my web-work easier too].
With 14 shooters taking bench positions this Sunday, we set a new milestone for participation in Air rifle Benchrest shooting at the DeSoto Gun Club. Our eclectic group today included a mix of the usual suspects, a couple new comers, and a Junior shooter.
Today's event also saw some extraordinary scores, at least at the single Target-Card level:
One competitor........ Adelle (a new Junior) scored 249 Points on a single card while shooting in her second relay. (A perfect single card score is 250 points.) BTW, Adelle shoots with borrowed equipment. AND she regularly completes the 25 Bulls target card in 10 minutes, which is half the allotted time, AND she shoots from Caldwell sandbags; no exotic mechanical rest with X, Y, Z, or Theta adjustments. (She's a bag squeezer) AND has been shooting air rifles for about a year. Adelle is 12 years old.
Go Girl !
Our TOP GUN overall was Steve G. Steve moved up from last month's 9th place finish (712 pts) to take First Place honors today with 739 pts. Steve and Chip each shot single card scores of 248 points. They also ended in a tie at 739 points. However, Steve's 31X effort bettered Chip's 24X bullseye score. Super Efforts all the way around.
It was pointed out by a couple 'Airgunners that not long ago our air rifle bench rest shooters were looking to break through 650 points. Now 725+ seems the higher average Benchrest Benchmark as more practice and top notch gear moves a few shooters closer to that elusive perfect card and the unimaginable 750pts, 75X perfect 3-card relay....shot outdoors.
Post Event fun: A couple folks brought their high power BR gear and set some targets out to approximately 100 yards. I heard they scored some pretty tight (sub-inch) groups. Extreme (Airgun) Benchrest anyone?
… Could it be due to all those fancy windflags across the range?
