FT Match 11-14-21
November's Field Target event had a strong turn-out ,drawing 17 competitors ( and one observer) to the lanes. Match-day conditions were near perfect; Cool enough for a light jacket in the AM during course set-up. Clear blue sky and steadily warming bright Sunshine brought temps to near 80 by noon . An occasional stiff breeze felt refreshing and added a little more interest to the game.
A few of our “regulars” returned this month after airgun adventures took them to Arizona, California. Texas, and Ohio, competing in State and National level Benchrest and Field Target tournaments. Well done waving the flag and representing Florida.
Today's group included a couple newer shooters, some scoring well, even with borrowed gear. Junior shooter Adelle brought her dad for his first try at Hunter Field Target. Others made the trek to DeSoto from far away as Jacksonville and Hollywood Florida. Your enthusiasm and support are appreciated.
Shooters Meeting.... and a Group Pic.
Rhino Field Target CEO Dick Otten arrived to deliver a “Super-Popper” target and to keep an eye on a special field target he recently configured and generously donated to the 'Airgunners; a target with three faceplates.
MEANWHILE: Noting that the club's field targets needed some paint, an ambitious 'Airgunner refreshed their looks incorporating artistic (“unusual”) color schemes, bold lines and odd shapes; some suggesting avant garde painting. Targets As Art? At least all the target Kill Zones were easy to see this time. The only target "malfunction" was quickly traced to "participant error" and was easily resolved. [Someone pulled the tree-mounted owl target down from it's "perch"]
Top Gun honors went to Dennis D with the high score of 48 shooting in Open Div. (Dennis was the only competitor to clean both the STANDING Lane (7) AND the KNEELING Lane 6. [That's Some Fine Shooting]. Donovan T. was high scorer (42) in the WFTF Div, and Linda M. lead the Hunter Div. with a score of 37.
Normally we set an 8 lane, 48 shot course. Today we included a 49th shot. On lane 8. A fourth target; one with three faceplates, each sporting progressively smaller killzones. - Dick's Bonus Target. Depending on the difficulty you select, a successful (single) shot can bring down one, two, or all three faceplates!
Pretty Cool.
Lane 8 Bonus Target: Each competitor got ONE Shot at the bonus target. They select a target difficulty and go for the corresponding bonus of one, two or three points if successful. Only three shooters bagged the 3 point bonus. The more prudent selected the medium difficulty (2 point) option, (the rabbit), while others played conservative, taking the easier 1 point owl option. Nine of the 17 shooters scored NO bonus points.

* A Perfect Score would be 51 Points Total [48 regulation and 3 bonus points]
Adelle brought her dad (Luke) to the range today.
They shared a gun - and had a lot of fun.
Otis and Shanita - She's one tricked-out Daystate Red Wolf. Check out the red wolf mascot (magnetically) perched atop his scope.
Shanita doesn't speak loud but she literally can give out a wolf howl on command. Otis saves that trick to celebrate cleaning a lane.
Jerry and John (foreground) confabulate over a cart of rifles while Corky (red shirt) prepares for sight-in.
Dennis - Our Top Gun shows his classic seated form.
Cliff and Dick played a little guitar after the shoot.
