Golf-Scored FT Match 12-12-21
Legal Notice: NEVER shoot a pellet at real golf balls. Never !
With temps reaching into the 80's, a blue sky, wispy clouds and light wind puffs, it was a terrific day for a golf outing or a Field Target shoot. At DeSoto Airgunners we combine the fun and frustrations of both sports in our unique Golf Scored Field Target Event. A Field Target match where (like golf) the low score wins. Today's (GSFT) match attracted 15 competitors including a couple returning 'snowbird' shooters .
For 2021 we revised some rules of the game to amplify the Risk – Reward aspect of play. Adding a unique Stroke Eliminator target afforded each shooter an opportunity to improve (lower) their stroke totals while testing their marksmanship and weighing their risk aversion. Today's course was set out across 8 lanes with three targets per lane. The bonus Stroke Eliminator target was also located on Lane 8. Lane 7 was designated off-hand only.
Our Top Gun - FT Golfer was Oscar V. finishing the course with a phenomenal low score of 1. Yes, one stroke total! Oscar was one of only 3 shooters to successfully bag a 3-point reduction from the bonus target. He was on fire; literally Aceing every First Shot, then downing most of the Option Shots he chose to take..... even offhanders! Very Impressive Shooting .

* It is mathematically possible to score as low as -3 with the bonus target in play.
Realistically, any score under 10 is exceptional.

An Overview of the Game:
Consider each field target on the lane as a golf hole, and each shot as a golf stroke. Missed shots add strokes. And like “real” golf, fewest strokes wins the match.
Up to two STROKES (shots) are allowed to DRAIN (kill) each HOLE (target).
If you Miss on your First attempt you must take another try. Success on your SECOND shot, you score a 2 on that target. Move On to next target.
Should you Miss both shots at that target, you score a Mulligan (3 Strokes) and move on to the next Hole (target) on the lane .
Golf may have the Hole in One; FT Golf has A Hole in None.
If you Hit a “Hole in One" ( a kill on your first shot) : You might accept a score of 1 stroke for that hole and move on to the next target, OR you may Take The Option shot.
The Option Shot is basically your choice to attempt a second shot at the target you just downed on your first attempt.
Option Shots create the risk – reward scenario for the competitor.
Make the kill on that option shot and you'll score ZERO for that hole!
Miss that option shot and your score balloons to 3 strokes for that hole ! Ouch.
This risk - reward factor becomes a big part of the Golf Scored Field Target game. Knowing which target to "double up on" can be key to reducing your score and (possibly) winning the match.
One More Twist: A Stroke Eliminator.
Each competitor got One Shot at this unique 3 face target with progressively smaller killzones. They correspond to progressively larger stroke count reductions.
Hitting the smallest target will cause all three faceplates to fall, and 3 strokes are DEDUCTED from that shooters total score.
Striking the mid size target flattens 2 faceplates and earns a 2 stroke reduction.
The largest hole is a single faceplate drop and scores a one stroke deduction for the shooter.
A miss on the Stroke Eliminator is NOT counted as a stroke. Simply no deduction made.
Dick Otten's 3-Faceplate Multi-Target was added to Lane 8 as the Stroke Eliminator target. A single shot might save you 3 strokes.
