FT Match 3-13-22
Calm days are mostly useful for setting up your FT rig.
Same winds that blow on you blow on me too.
After enduring weeks of near record high temps and humidity Southwest Florida got a break this weekend. A cold front squall line arrived Saturday noon, with 50 MPH winds and some much needed rain. By Sunday morning the temperature had cratered to the upper 30's ( a 50 degree drop in 24 hours.), and still very windy. This brought a rare South Florida experience - wind chill . All this on top of just losing a hour sleep to DST !
Today's Field Target event brought out 15 shooters. Some wore down filled jackets, others sported mittens and hand warmers as they assisted with the course set-up and sign-in. It was unseasonably brisk.
Before you begin to smirk, non-Floridians need to remember we're acclimatized to warm sub-tropical conditions; and it's been getting warmer .
Our 8 lane, 48 shot field target course featured 3 targets per lane, 2 shots per target in the order near to far. There was a good mix of challenging target kz sizes within the 10 to 55 yard spread. Clear sky, brisk breeze and bright Sun made for a delightful day - even if Mother Nature kept her finger on the Troyer Scale - upping the course “Difficulty” with 12 to 18 MPH winds punctuated by gusts.
Dennis D. won Top Gun recognition, shooting an excellent course score of 46 points in Open Division. Special Note: Dennis was the only shooter to clean both Forced Position lanes: the Kneeling Lane (6) AND the OffHand Lane (7). That's Some Very Fine Shooting.
Steve G. was high scoring Hunter Division competitor finishing with 33 points. Steve missed a kz but somehow split a braided steel lead wire between the target faceplate and the Dacron reset strings. Never seen that before.
A couple shooters new to the Field Target game joined us today. Considering they shot with borrowed equipment and in windy conditions they posted respectable scores.
Smiles and animated discussions followed the Match. It was easy to see a fun time was had on the lanes today. We punted on lunch because the Arcadia Rodeo was in town; it draws large crowds.
