BR 9-11-22
Today's Summer Swelter Bench Rest event was a day of DeSoto Airgunners Firsts – the first time any shooter in our group scored 250 points (a perfect score) on a single target card, AND first time (this season) our Top Gun winner also earned our "X-Prize" . Congratulations Dennis D, winning today's Top Gun slot with a final score of 746 points ( of 750 possible) AND nailing 36X's in his 3-card relay.
More than a dozen windicators were strategically deployed across the range from bench-close to far downrange. One shooter even placed a telltale atop his target stand. Before our pre-event Safety Review I had the feeling this was going to be an intense competition. Tight scores proved it; only 3 points separated 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishers today, all scoring 740 points and better. Some fine shootin' !
Windicators and flags of many varieties across the range. Note the telltale atop the right target stand.
Conditions during course setup were dead calm. Wind indicators weren't showing much, literally motionless, looking for any direction. By match start time we had steadying wind puffs averaging 5 to 7 mph and those conditions continued throughout the shoot. It was seasonally warm and humid. I noticed a few more shooters brought compact cooling fans this week.
Our match was guided by USARB rules. Most competitors were slotted in the Heavy Varmint classification. John L. and Scott A. competed in the Unlimited Division as their rifles incorporate electronic triggers.
Scott A. closely examines a pellet. John L. makes a small tweak to his setup.
Quote of The Match came from Corky: “Sure hurt my final score when I skiped and blanked 4 target boxes”. Oddly, another competitor, Dustin, ALSO left 4 “un-shot” target boxes on a card today.
Dennis - Shooting a Perfect Card. Jerry makes some fine adjustments to his new rest.
Linda and the scoring team did a great job as usual. Thanks also to Chip and Dennis for their midweek maintenance and refurb work on our target stands.
A few of our 'usual suspects' will be trekking to Arizona soon to compete in the annual Extreme Benchrest Tournament in Phoenix. We wish those folks Safe travels and High scores.
Winding his way among the windflags, Dustin sets a new target. Chip lets one off. Note the personal cooling fan

Shooters enjoy casual confabulation while awaiting the Safety Briefing.
By popular request the next DeSoto Airgunners event (October 9th) will be a Benchrest shoot.
