FT - 3-12-23
DeSoto Airgunners held their monthly Field Target match Sunday 3-12, a day with near perfect conditions for some high scores.
Our match attracted a turn-out of 15 competitors including a couple SnowBirds from Ohio and New York enjoying some Field Target during their Florida stay. We all savored the bright Sun, the few high clouds and comfortable humidity. A cool morning soon became shirt-sleeve comfy, low humidity and temps climbing to 80 by afternoon. A few very light puffs, but not much wind.
Dennis D. was our Top Gun finishing with a high score of 45 after dropping only three shots across today's 8 lane 48 shot course. Of note: Dennis and 4 other shooters aced their kneeling shots (lane 5). No one managed to clean lane 7, the designated Standing lane. I'm not sure what the 'Troyer' was for that lane. Missed shots were attributed to DST clock advance. It's tough to lose that hour.
There was kind hearted cajoling over the far target on lane #2. It was shaded by an old oak tree and set to a long distance. After the match the target was laser measured to be 57 yards out. Match Director Ron was asked to make a ruling*. "The target at 57 yards was viable, it will count in today's club match." Kudos to the two shooters (John T. & Jerry M.) who cleaned lane #2.
*(Current AAFTA Rules limit target distance to 55 yards. However, this being a 'club match' affords the Match Director some latitude.)
Ken M., new to Field Target put up a respectable score. Today's low score belonged to your scribe and event marshal Ron Z. As he explained: " An undetected slow air leak caused too many shots to take an unknowable ballistic arc. " - It's All In Fun.
A Shout-Out to Scott for organizing and enrolling several shooters to help with painting the targets after the match. Each spray job is distinctive and everyone had fun helping too. Well Done.
Our next monthly event (APRIL 9th) will be a Classic Field Target Match.
Safe Travels Everyone.
