FT-4-9-23
Today's Field Target event coincided with Easter Sunday, and with the celebrations of Ramadan and Passover. At the conclusion of the shooters meeting Jerry addressed the group offering a few words of spiritual inspiration on this Easter Sunday.
We had a turn-out of 12 competitors including a new shooter to our venue, Miguel. Though new to Airgunning, Miguel is not new to shooting sports and archery. He posted today's Hi Hunter Score of 43 in h this, his first airgun match. Top Gun Honors were shared between Gary P. and Dennis D. Shooting in the Open Division they each scored 47 of 48 possible points. Dennis was perfect on the kneeling and off-hand forced position lanes. His only miss was a long shot on lane 3. Some fine shooting with a tricked out Marauder. Gary dropped his one point on an off-hand target on lane 7. There was no shoot-off.
Match conditions were near perfect. A slight overcast kept temps shirt-sleeve comfortable and there was almost no wind to contend with. A few light puffs became a factor only for the furthest targets. Quickly passing rain sprinkles arrived late enough to slightly "dampen" everyone on their final lane. No big deal, heavier rains didn't fall till well after we stored our toys and targets and were on the way home.
Four DeSoto Airgunners were fresh back from Baton Rouge where they competed in the Cajun Classic, a national AAFTA Grand Prix Tour Event. Steve G took First Place in the two day 25 and 50 yard Benchrest event and Linda shot her way into the top 10 with an 8th place finish in Benchrest. Gene Childers was on the podium in Second Place; Field Target Open Division scoring 102 points.
We always wish safe travels and high scores to our airgunning regulars that compete in several State and National level Field Target and Benchrest tournaments. Well done waving the flag and representing Florida.
Reminder: Next DeSoto Airgunners event is scheduled for May 14. It will be a Field Target club match. A number of 'Airgunners have expressed interest in shooting Pistol Field Target ( P-ft). We're working to hold an abbreviated P-ft at the conclusion of our next regular Field Target match. Let me know if this is something you would like to try. We'll keep you posted.
