5-14-23 Mom's Day Match
Today's Field Target event coincided with Mother's Day - and our Safety Meeting included that important recognition - We wouldn't be here without moms.
Mother's Day Sunday marked the last formal Field Target shoot; at least for the next few months. Sunday was also a First at DeSoto as the 'Airgunners held an abbreviated Air Pistol Field Target shoot. It was an informal trial outing; even keeping your score was optional. The pistol shooters used the same course that was set earlier for the rifle competition. They limited themselves to the lanes where the target Hit-Zone size and Target Distances were within (or near) the AAFTA Pistol FT regulations. Some of those details may be found HERE
We had a turn-out of 12 competitors for the Mom's Day FT Shoot. Top Gun Honors was won by Dennis D. Shooting in the Open Division Dennis scored 46 of 48 possible points, dropping two on the far target on lane 7 the Standing Lane. I'm not sure what the Troyer Difficulty was but only 2 shooters [Linda M. and Bob C.] managed a double X score on that particular target. There was a tie for the High Hunter score. Both Ron G and John T. each scored 41 points.
Match conditions were good. Comfortable bright overcast during the course setup and first few lanes, no significant wind. By mid match the Sun came out and temps soared. It stirred up a few intermittent gusts reaching 20 mph. You can find more detailed weather histograms HERE.

Immediately following the Rifle FT event a group of 'Airgunners brought out their "pistols" for some added fun and challenge. Air Pistol Field Target is popular at many clubs and ranges. It's become the featured "option-shoot" at all the major US National and regional AAFTA Grand Prix events. Some pistol rigs are very trick. Up to 20 lb/ft energy limits, a few of these purpose built air pistols started out as accurate rifles. They got reconfigured, chopped and fitted with shorter barrels and a pistol grip stock.
Here are a few pics from the match - courtesy of Linda and Miguel - THANKS.

That's some fine looking woodwork on that tack-driver
- Umbrella Buddies - Jerry (l) & Miguel (r) enjoy some shade.
With an enthusiastic Thumbs-Up Steve pretty well summed up our Mothers Day Field Target Shoot.
Seasonal Change - With daily stretches into the 90's and dew points climbing into deep tropical values, DeSoto Airgunners will shift our emphasis from Air Rifle Field Target to Benchrest activities. Next month will be the start of what's become the Summer Swelter Benchrest series. Get Ready!
