Welcome Back To The Lanes !
Following our Summer Swelter Benchrest Series, DeSoto Airgunners shifts our emphasis to Field Target events in Southwest Florida.
Sunday’s ‘Return-To-The-Lanes’ event brought in seven shooters. Match conditions were pleasant with lower humidity under a bright overcast sky with clouds keeping temps just below 80 degrees. Not much wind, but occasional puffs demanded attention, specially on those longer shots.
Today’s 48 shot, 8 lane event was one for the website archives. Seasoned Field Target maven Gene C. CLEANED the course today! We haven't seen that in a while. He nailed every target on every lane including Standing and Kneeling lanes. Impressive. More astounding; Gene won the event shooting his QB -78, a rig he heavily modified into an accurate reliable tack driver. (photos below)
The match ran smooth with only one cold line called to verify a target function. No Troyer Scale was calculated but experienced consensus rated the overall course at least medium difficulty with a tree-shot and some targets set near the 55 yard limit. My squad included Gene’s son Corey C. Corey is relatively new to airguns and only shot a couple benchrest matches before his try at the Field Target game. He bagged a respectable score for his first FT outing. Corey also shoot a QB78; Yes, another QB78 deeply modified, tweaked and improved by his dad Gene (today's Top Gun winner).
A few of the regular DeSoto Airgunners were out of town this week competing in Extreme Benchrest 2023, a popular annual event in Arizona. DeSoto Airgunner Steve G. was on the podium twice! He took 3rd place in Extreme 100 yard Sportsman Class competition and finished 2nd place in the One-Gun Challenge. Jerry M. won 4th Place in Extreme Field Target (Sniper Class). Other DeSoto Airgunners may be on their way to the AAFTA Field Target Nationals in Ohio next week. We wish them all High Scores and Safe Travels.
Thanks to the many hands that made light work of the course setup and range housekeeping. We'll do it again November 12th .
