FieldTarget 12-14-25
Today’s DeSoto Airgunners match attracted a dozen competitors, a good turn-out considering we're in the midst of the busy ’Silly Season’ with Christmas and New Years around a very short corner. Match time saw comfortable conditions, light sweater weather. For 90 % of the match there was essentially no wind to contend with. The 48 shot event was set across 8 lanes 3 targets per lane – our usual course configuration that included a kneeling and a standing lane.
The Safety Meeting Concluded With A Tee Shirt Presentation:
Chip had dominated the 2025 Summer benchrest season
and is currently off to a strong start in Hunter Field Target.
Dennis presented Chip a custom Tee with an appropriate accolade:
"It's not the Arrow; It's the Indian".
Though no official Troyer Factors were recorded it was obvious this was not an easy club match. Co-event marshals Dennis and Chip helped with target set-up and they made sure there were some High Troyer difficulties sprinkled across the lanes. Gary was the only shooter to clean the Kneeling lane. No one cleaned the Standing lane today. We all need the practice specially when The Southwest Florida Cabin Fever Grand Prix (An official AAFTA event) will launch in just a few weeks. Info and a link can be found on the AAFTA Calendar page ( https://www.aafta.org/event-calendar.html ) or the Lekatchka Airgunners Club site ( https://lekatchkaftc.wixstudio.com/lekatchkaftc )
Today's competitors represented several AAFTA Divisions. We had 2 WFTF division shooters. 4 Open Division participants, 5 shooters in Hunter- PCP. Lindsay was our only Hunter-piston shooter.
TOP GUN (high event score) was achieved by Dennis D. with a total of 45 points shooting Open Div. Scott and Chip tied for high score in the Hunter division; there was no shoot-off.
The match was interrupted with a short cold line call. One of our oldest targets with a stingy 3/8" kill-zone needed some mid-match attention. Seems some pellet splatter was swedged to the faceplate and it appeared to be closing off a portion of what was an already too small kill zone.
We had a Junior ROTC member and his dad arrive to observe and learn about the Field Target game. I think we'll be seeing those guys in some future Field Target competitions.
The next match at the DeSoto Gun Club venue will be Sunday 01/11/26.
