Golf Scored FT Match 2-11-18
With temps in the low 80's, light winds and occasional gusts to keep things interesting it was a wonderful day for a golf outing or a Field Target Shoot. At DeSoto Airgunners we combined the fun and frustrations of both in our unique Golf Scored Field Target Event. Today's 21 target match saw 9 competitors including 1 springer ( Freddie P.) who more than held his own finishing 3rd against all PCP shooters from WFTF, Hunter, and Open Divisions.
Just to review rules of the game... As in Golf, low score wins. Up to three shots are allowed in attempt to knock each target down. Miss all 3 shots at the target and score a (Mulligan) 4. Hit on your third shot, score a 3; Hit on your second shot, score a 2. Hit a “ Hole in One" ( a kill on your first shot) and you might accept a score of one. However... you'll now have a special option to consider. If you wish, you may try a second shot at that same target. Make the kill on that optional second shot and your score becomes a zero for that target. Miss that second shot and your score becomes a two.
This risk - reward factor becomes a big part of the game. Knowing which target to "double up on" can be key to reducing your score and winning the match.
Today's course included a good mix of target distances and difficulties and a not-too-easy off-hand lane. There were enough (apparently) "easy" targets that even the most conservative shooters would be tempted to take that optional second try if they made a kill on their first shot. As we all know even the simple targets are never a sure thing. There was agony across the face of a few shooters after missing their optional shot as their score ballooned from a potential zero to a 2 when they missed their elected shot.
The Golf Scored Match is a fun change of pace to our regular field target events. No trophy or prizes, just a few laughs and friendly competition.
