Golf Scored Field Target Match: A Shooting Competition Where Low Score Wins !
Its a ph. Think of each target as a “golf hole”, and every shot as a golf “stroke”. (A more detailed summary of the game can be found below*).
It was a perfect day for a golf outing or for a Field Target shoot. DeSoto Airgunners combined the fun and frustration of golf with the challenges of field target shooting in a Golf Scored Field Target Match. Think of each target as a “golf hole”, and every shot as a golf “stroke”. (A more detailed summary of the game can be found below*).
Today's course of 24 targets (holes) was spread over 8 lanes and included designated kneeling and an off-hand only lane. In this fun twist on traditional Field Target shooting, a perfect score (theoretically) can be zero, while a total wipe-out would score 96 (strokes) over the 24 hole course.
Top Gun Honor went to Gary P. with a low score of 14 strokes. Gary P. and Dennis D. (2nd place with 21) were the only shooters to clean the kneeling lane today. Freddie P. (shooting WFTF -Piston Div. ) was sensational with his TX200 springer. His score of 22 strokes tied Donovan T. who took WFTF – PcP Division honors. Impressive scores for a challenging course.
I'm always delighted when new shooters join in. Of the day's 16 competitors, about half were new to our unique “Golf Scored” FT game. We also had a couple newbie Field Target shooters on the lanes. This wide scope of experience is reflected in the range of final scores.
Arnold Palmer said: “Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated.” . Sounds a lot like Field Target to me.

* Just to review: as in golf, low score wins. Up to three shots are allowed in attempt to knock the target down.
Miss all 3 shots and you score a 4. Hit on your third shot, score a 3; hit on your second shot, score a 2; hit on your first shot, (a "hole in one"), you could score it a 1 and move on to the next target HOWEVER, you now have the option of taking another shot at that same target. If you opt for that second attempt and kill it again you are scored a "0" for that target. However, if you miss on that second shot option, you score a 2 for that target. This risk - reward factor becomes a big part of the game. Knowing which target to "double up on" can be the key to winning a golf scored match.
